Gauri, a film for the exhibition in the Tropenmuseum Junior.

Gauri is fifteen years old. She lost a leg in an accident when she was two. When her mother died last year, the family fell apart. Gauri promised her mother to take care of her little brother. Now they stay with their aunt in the slums. When she dances she feels free. Gauri keeps smiling.

Verhoeven & van Zantvoort made a pure and intimate portrait of Gauri and followed her and her brother during the production of a Bollywood clip, where Gauri's dream came true. This film is part of the Bombay exhibition (Ster in de stad) in the Tropen-museum Junior in Amsterdam (2006-2009).

The museum created a small version of the slums in Mumbai. During exhibitions the Dutch children can 'work for money and make it in Bombay'. A Bollywood theater was especially created for this film to be screened, where more than 100.000 visitors enjoyed the screening.
